Right now, I believe the heavy snow swath will be in a line from Peoria to Chicago...just southeast of the Rockford area. In the swath, some areas of 6"+ can be expected. However I caution that any guess in snowfall is moot at this point. The models have been all over the place, so it is SUBJECT TO CHANGE. For that reason the NWS has put all of North-Central Illinois in a Winter Storm Watch. We'll be watching the models closely...updates frequently. -ERIC

Major Storm Approaches!
We've got two things to watch during the next 36 hours. First, the potential for some freezing rain, sleet, and snow tonight. Late tonight there could be some slick spots, but roadways will remain at or above freezing (except if there are areas of heavy sleet). Since sleet pellets are very dense, they can accumulate easier on warm roadways. This could pose a problem after 9pm. Use caution as Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for areas west of Rockford tonight.

that low pressure needs to kick up up northwards a bit so then we can get some snow!
What's weird Mike is the fact that on Sunday the models were slamming us with snow. Monday morning's models shifted the whole system 120 miles to the east...and ever since then they've been playing catch up. Right now it appears the heavy (5"+) will be 25-75 miles east and south of Rockford.
But I'll be the first to say that it may change!!!
hopefully it keeps tracking east...our snow removal units aren't ready yet.

ahhh.....just what i need.....i'm coming back to Rockford in near white out conditions....thanks sis for choosing to have your baby on the day i need to drive 4 hours in this stuff. good thing i have my portable grill with me.....i might be barbecueing on the side of I-39 at some point.
