A few miles on a storm track can make a huge difference. At this point in time (Thursday morning), it looks like the storm system will move directly over the Rockford area. This track will keep us balancing on the freezing line giving us a chance for sleet, freezing rain, general rain, and eventually some snow.
If the storm wobbles on its path at all it will change the precipitation type that we see greatly. If it turns north of us that will put us on the warm (southeast) side of the storm bringing us mostly rain. If it turns south of us that will put us on the cold (northwest) side of the storm bringing us mostly snow.
Regardless of the outcome a lot of moisture will be streaming northward off of the Gulf of Mexico, which will make for a messy weekend. -ADAM
