UPDATED at 8:15pmA narrow band of heavy snow has moved into the area! The bad news? We'll get an inch (perhaps two) with this band before it ends within a few hours. The good news? It'll be rather quiet for the rest of the night.
Because of this initial burst of snow, I have upped the snowfall forecast just a little bit. Jo Daviess, Stephenson, Winnebago, Boone, and McHenry will now have a chance to exceed 12 inches with this upcoming event.
Freezing rain/sleet/and snow will be possible from south to north for much of the day on Saturday. Precipitation amounts will be fairly light until Saturday night when this system gains its strength.
Heavy snow with easterly winds near 35mph will bring white-out conditions to the area Saturday night into early Sunday. Snow will continue on the moderate to heavy side Sunday before tapering to flurries Sunday night. Total snowfall accumulations will exceed one foot for all of southern Wisconsin. There is a slight potential that the Rockford metro could add up more than one foot.
What is certain? This will be a major weather system that could have impacts on life. Plan ahead now! Travel will be impossible Saturday night and Sunday. Any necessary travel and supplies should be completed in short order. -ERIC

Very thin area for 6-12
based on that, where i am will receive 6-12 because i am in loves park, but loves park is awfully close to the one foot mark. wow, this will be one heck of a storm if it pans out.
It looks like just a minor shift can change a lot. Drive 30 miles south and there will be almost nothing. When will this actually be starting? more than an inch of snow by 8am will cancel work... so does that look likely?

Are we still expecting ice, or is this now a mainly snow event?
The track is crucial! And it all depends on the sleet tomorrow. Even if we have only an hour or two of sleet, that will bring a lot of precipitable water out of the atmosphere...limiting our final snowfall totals.
However, if it is all snow through the entire event, we're looking at 1.4" of precipitable water...translation? 14" of snow. -ERIC

On the news at 5:00 there was a list of towns and what they should expect for snow, why was roscoe and rockton not listed? Are they within the 6-12 or the 12+?
I choose to think optimistically that Rockton will fall in the 12+ range! I love the snow, It provides a great excuse to stay home and relax all day.
This seems to be shaping up into a very excited weather event! Living in the Roscoe area, I am optimistic for the 12+. I think the bubble finally popped and (if it goes as anticipated) we are going to see some exciting weather. Stay off the roads everyone. Unless you are headed to work... there is no need to be out doing Sunday shopping, thinking that you will make it.
Our church teen group went to Army Lake (past Elkhorn) they may have to stay till Monday. When is it supposed to be bad there? I'm sure they won't mind spending another day.
Woodmans was crazy tonight. Waited in line to checkout for 35 minutes.

we just drove from north perryville to roscoe and the roads are TERRIBLE.

i live in lanark? so where does the line fall there for snow? i am not looking forward to driving to work in freeport tomorrow.

I agree, Woodmans was very hectic tonight. Stay off of the roads. Could we possibly get another snow day on Monday? I know the teachers would appreciate it! (myself included)
should I leave to work on saturday night i am working night shift 6p.m to 6a.m in Woodstock taking bypass 20 i 176 route from Marengo and I live in Rockford of course I also work on Sunday 6.p.m to 6 a.m on Monday which day I shoud stay home or wich day I can go?
This is great-I am lovin it!!!!! This has been the winter of my dreams! So many winters we get many predictions of snow that never materialis. So I will enjoy shoveling with my hubby and playing in the snow.I also know that spring is just around the corner-for those who dont like it.And it will melt soon.I am hoping for the high totals!!!! Sue
