Here is how this winter storm looks to time out over the next 48 hours. Tonight, a light mix is not out of the realm. Tonight's showers will be scattered, meaning that not everyone will be picking up on the wet weather. Tomorrow morning I expect a brief lull before this storm really starts kicking. Temperatures should be just warm enough to support freezing rain in the Rockford area tomorrow afternoon. Widespread showers are likely by 5pm Saturday.
By 11pm Saturday night, the mixed bag of precipitation should change over into all snow across the Stateline. East winds will be screaming between 20 - 30 mph causing blowing and drifting snow. Visibilities will be very low causing blizzard-like conditions for Sunday morning. Travel will be extremely poor for the second half of the weekend. Stay safe... -ADAM
