1st Severe T-Storm Watch of the Season

A severe thunderstorm watch is currently in effect and will be running through 7pm tonight for Winnebago, Ogle, Lee, Boone, McHenry, and DeKalb counties. A watch means that there is a potential for thunderstorms to become severe this afternoon. The main threat from these thunderstorms will be gusty winds, small hail, and a potential for localized flooding. If these thunderstorms materialize we will break into local programming this afternoon. -ADAM

Same as above in Janesville WI (Rock County); I think it was closer to 2:00 though.

Since it was the first thunderstorm outbreak of the season I think the National Weather Service was issuing the thunderstorm watch as more of a precautionary measure than anything. The line of thunderstorms early yesterday afternoon weren't overly impressive, but there is nothing wrong with staying on the safe side.
