Day #2
In Illinois, most tornadoes occur from April through June, during the mid afternoon through early evening hours. However they can occur at any time of the day and at any month in the year. Illinois has an average of 41 tornadoes per year which makes it fifth in the nation in tornadoes per square mile. There was a record 124 tornadoes in 2006.
When a tornado threatens, you may only have seconds to save yourself and your family. Make a preparedness plan for your home, school, and workplace NOW...before the threat of severe weather moves into our area. -ERIC

For those of you wondering about the training session for severe weather, just visit the national weather service website. On the home page is a map of the U.S. Just click on the northern Illinois region and in the headlines of the day you will find the spotter training class schedule. The website also offers plenty of other interesting thing to look at if you haven't checked it out before. I hadn't realized that Rockford did not have tornado warning sirens?. I would like to hear more about this topic if anyone has info.. I live in rural Roscoe- about 5 miles out of town and I have been able to hear the sirens. The warning system plays a very important role in the community- especially for those in the immediate area that would benefit from hearing the sirens. It's just one more safety measure that the city could take to ensure pubic safety.
For all of those wondering about severe weather spotting I woould definatly recommned it. I just completed the advanced spotter class this last weekend, it makes me feel a lot safer and more prepared. And I know how to go chasing ;). Highly recommended.
