Don't Forget the Headlights

On my way into work this morning I counted 22 cars without their headlights on...in the pouring rain! Just remember that when you have to use your windshield wipers, turn your headlights on. It's much easier to you coming! - CANDY

Good idea!

Hey Candice, I heard you say that you were a farm girl.

There's an awful lot of standing water in the fields, even before it started raining yesterday.

When will these fields get dried out enough to get some of that corn planted?

It has been a while since I have been a farm girl :) And a while since I've been out in the field. (okay...maybe not that long)

Hopefully some of the water was able to dry up this past weekend..even though it rained Sunday night it wasn't a prolonged rain. There will be a few dry and sunny days coming up this week and that should get a good start on some of the drying. With the exception of this past week, things have been pretty dry for the month of April. So the soil was fairly dry but with the recent rains, it will take a few days for it to soak in. And I'm sure that some of the farmers with larger acres were able to get out and start planting already...especailly with some of the different variety of seeds that are available that can withstand greater extremes. If the weather's right, they try to get out by the 20th of April. Some of the smaller acreage farmers usually get out by the first week in May. However, if there are more than a couple of days where the fields have standing water in them, the farmer will more than likely have to replant because it will cause the seed to rot.
