Severe Thunderstorm Watch may be issued this afternoon

Storms over far eastern Iowa are increasing in intensity this afternoon. A few may move into our Mississippi River counties by 4pm. The SPC says "PARTS OF ERN IA/NRN IL...AND PERHAPS SRN MN AND SWRN WI...MAY REQUIRE A WATCH WITHIN THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS."

We'll continue to watch for this possibility. For the short-term, expect more filtered sunshine. Highs in the low to mid 80s. -ERIC

You got it! I expect storms to fire up in NE Iowa within the next few hours. It's amazing to see the radar screens so dark right now. However, there are 80° dewpoints in North Central Iowa...Omaha was 100° today. There certainly is a lot of instability out there along the front. We'll be watching things closely! -ERIC
