Watching the Storms

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for all of the WREX Viewing audience except for Jo Daviess County. A line of thunderstorms has developed ahead of a cold front that will sweep through during the next couple of hours. As of now no active warnings have been issued, but as the storms move through expect gusty winds, hail, and once again heavy rainfall. Some of the areas that were hardest hit yesterday are the ones we'll be watching very closely this afternoon for the potential of flooding once again.

it is getting dark here in loves park, but no storms yet, whether they hit us or split up or die before they get here remains to be seen.

Just now getting done raining here in Winnebago, had some wind before the storm came in..Got in about an hour in the pool before we cleared out so we could get things put up. It rained pretty hard here and had some pretty loud thunder. I just love the storms during the summer. Hopefully we get some more here! Just always seems in this area and rockford we always get just the heavy rain and thunder while everyone gets the rest..Must be something in our air here to where the storms either die off or don't really hit us that much. could it be being so close to the rock river or would that not really have an affect on our weather???

I can see blue skies again to the west of Rockton. It has stopped raining, but it really came down for a while during that brief storm.

These aren't severe by any stretch. We'll have to wait and see if the air behind this initial line can re-charge. The front right now stretches from Madison to Galena to Iowa City. -ERIC

I noticed that yesterday when the storms hit dekalb, when i got home from work that the storms seemed like they developed all around rockford and loves park, but hardly a drop to be found. i also noticed today that when the first line formed, they looked very impressive on radar when they were in freeport, then when they got here they nearly fizzled out, but formed a thin line, they reformed when they hit boone county. rockford just seems to be a bad area for getting major weather, or very heavy rains.
