The graphic to the left shows Doppler estimated precipitation totals across the Stateline. The general trend has been between 3 and 6 inches of rain for the northernmost counties in Illinois. You can see a few shadings of violet and purple, indicating rain totals that are pretty much off the charts.
The ground is certainly saturated, which means that any more rain that we do see has nowhere to go. The good news on that note is that the activity is starting to wane a bit. The strong thunderstorms from last night are starting to die off, but we will still deal with some showery conditions this morning. The skies should be completely dry by this afternoon. This should help relieve the problems this morning caused by flash flooding.
Here are some rainfall totals:
Kingston: 5.22" (thanks Bob)
Freeport: 3.25"
Chicago-Rockford Airport: 3.41"
Woodstock: 4.35"
Rockford: 4.83"
Marengo: 5.10"
Loves Park: 5.25"
East of Freeport: a whopping 7.10"!!!

Checking our rain gauge this a.m. we got 3.5 inches here in rural Lena.
In Lena we got 4 inches as of 7am
Rain gauge in Genoa had 5 inches this morning!
3.46in here in Harvard making a total of 6.56in since Sunday morning
I'd love to know how much Belvidere got! Our house and the church ministry center each had basement flooding from last night's rain episode. It was coming down in buckets for HOURS!
we certainly appreciate your coverage of the storms, Adam.Channel 13 is the best
I talked to my husband and he had to go to work at4:40 am this morning which is his normal time. He said it was bad even on bypass 20 heading towards the belvidere exit. He said Marengo was bad. His works parking lot is flooded, i guess its up to our Suv's tires. He said he got soaked walking just into work, there are people out there filling up bags of sand to stop it from getting in the shop.
I live in Freeport an my rain gauge holds five inches and it was full this morning we received way more than five inches of rain.
In Belvidere @ 9am rain gauge had 7.5". Empty garbage can in yard had 9.5" which may be more accurate due to not near buildings to create a rain shadow.
We lost power from 1:50am till 10:20am. Was starting to get warm in the house.

WIFR has aerial view of the flooding. They cut in every once in a while... and I'm sure itll be on at noon if anyone is interested. Somehow they got a helicoptor =/
Has anyone heard if Redeemer Lutheran has reflooded? I'm assuming they have, it's by the park in the flood zone. They took a lot of water last year and had extensive damage just to have the same area flood again this year.
According to our 5 gallon bucket in the yard we had 8.5" of rain! We are just out of Rockford city limits btw. E. State St and Newburg.
i had 5.25 inches here in loves park as of 5:45 am, emptied it out since my gauge was near the top due to my not emptying it before midnnight when it has a half inch, and record .32 more. so my total was 5.57. impressive. we also lost power around 210 this morning but had it back by 230.
Thank you to everyone for reporting your rainfall totals. Incredible amounts of rain indeed. Rain will continue to be in the forecast through Thursday, which means the next 48 hours will be critical in terms of flood control.

Also, thanks for being patient and bearing with me while I try to hold down the fort by myself.

Why waste time watching WIFR?
Because they have aerial footage. And we dont have a meteorologist at the time. Just because WREX is the best doesnt mean we cant watch anything else.
Adam,I think you have a done a superb job holding down the fort while eric is on vacation and candy is on maternity leave. That has to be alot of work to make a forecast, update the blog, go on air. I know I would go nuts. I wouldn't trust 23 with all my life. 13 is the only station I trust. I don't even trust the weather channel half the time, plus you have to wait 10 minutes to see a radar. And i noticed that when we got the rain yesterday, the weather channel didnt say a work about it. Seems if chicago isnt being affected, then they dont care.
