The graphic to the left shows the heaping piles of snow that we accrued in the past 24 hours. Thanks again to those that reported here on the Blog. -ADAM
I wish I could contribute to the snow fall totals, since I'm in Rockton Township, and it doesn't seem you guys have anyone else out here --but it drifts so badly on our property that in some places we have over a foot and in others there's bare ground.
I was just curious... no one really saw this big snowstorm coming. I mean, I believe that we were forecasting 1-3 inches, or 4 at the most for Monday if I remember correctly ( I could be wrong ).
What was the reason that things changed and became a bigger storm? Did we recieve more gulf moisture than thought? Were we closer to the path of the low than originally planned? :)
One thing though, I am thankful for my wonderful neighbor that volunteered to snowblow my driveway, when she saw me with my shovel. :)
I read some of the forecast discussions from the NWS, and they stated that the low deepened faster then what the latest model predicted, also i think the jet stream had something to do with the prolonged snow also.
Just for the record, I was extremely disappointed in my state's (WI's) ability to get its Interstate highwys plowed this morning (and I'm a state employee too, so this isn't just a general rant about state employees).
It wasn't just that they were having trouble keeping up... It was that there hadn't been any plowing done at all at 6:00 this morning, and although I saw many tow trucks during a nearly-3-hour drive, there was nary a snow plow to be seen. Hey, WI: what's up with that?
It was that way down here. I went to work this morning and left my house around 645 and not one road was plowed and I saw no plows on the road. They did eventually later, but I think it was a very poor effort.
Eric has over twelve years of experience in broadcast Meteorology and is the only local Meteorologist who was born and raised in Rockford! In June 2008 he was given the prestigious Silver Dome Award for best TV weathercast from the Illinois Broadcasters Association. He attended St. Edwards Grade School and Boylan High School here in Rockford before heading to Northern Illinois University. After receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Meteorology, Eric worked at KTRE-TV in Lufkin, Texas and KLTV in Tyler, Texas. His parents live in Belvidere and are loyal viewers every night. He has an older brother who lives in the Chicagoland area and a sister who watches WREX on a fuzzy tv up in East Troy, Wisconsin. He's happy to share his Rockford home with an 8 year old black lab named Theo. Around the station Theo's been nicknamed the "13 Weather Lab."

Too bad the snow sculpting competition was canceled just a couple days ago...

I had 8 inches of snow here in loves park as of 6:40 am. I couldn't report it because I had to be in to work at 7. But that is my final total.
