We've finally done it! Tonight, Rockford set an all-time record high for snowfall. The previous record for snowfall in the three months of winter (December, January, and February) came in 1978/1979 when 63.4 inches of snow fall. With tonight's snow, we're going into the #1 spot and we're just ten inches short of the record for the entire winter season! In a typical March we can expect six inches of snow. However this season is anything but typical! -ERIC

1.7" of snow was officially measured at RFD from last night's little storm system. That was 1.6" more than we needed to break the record. Secondary roads could be a little slick this morning, but overall driving conditions aren't too bad at this time.
Woo hoo!!!!! Okay, now let's move on to some Spring like weather.... :)
Hey Adam, can you tell how March is gonna play out? Are we stuck in a winter weather pattern another month or so or does it look like we might start warming up some?
Nice, We beat the record, Tuesday is looking like it could be interesting guys, especially with the new experimental nam. Of course, we are quite away from Tuesday, but many of these lows coming out of the SW have trended model per model run toward the NW. There is definitely an outside shot of something, I'm hoping the trend will continue cause I would like to see the seasonal 78-79 record broken.

I'm going to hope (and maybe even pray) that we have a very atypical March --no snow at ALL!!!
I want to see some green growing things.

I just sifted through data that runs through St. Patrick's Day and other than this Sunday I don't see much in the way of above average temperatures. Technically it will warm up some, but look for the highs to stay below the average for a good chunk of the month. Talking precipitation, I don't expect this parade of storms (one storm every 3-4 days) to quit until La Nina pulls out late this spring. We are 8.4" away from breaking the all-time snowfall record for an entire year. The way the past three months have gone, I wouldn't say it is a big stretch that we could eclipse that mark by April.
You guys are hoping for this 8.4 or more inches of snow, aren't you!!LOL
I'll take the data you looked up with a smile b/c it could always be much, much worse! Thanks!
Is there a website that will give the snowfall totals (per day/date)for the 07/08 season, for Ogle county? I looked on your blog, but there is nothing pertaining to Ogle county.
clandscaper: Goto weather.gov/rockford and click on climate. You should be able to find the climate info for Rockford. Unfortunately there are no climate stations in Ogle Co.
Hope that helps! -ERIC
