Weather synopsis: Temperatures tonight will near Wind Chill Advisory criteria in the -20 to -15° range. Friday will just be cold. Depending on how far the temps dip tonight, it may be difficult to get much above 10°, even with sunshine on Friday.
Saturday will be quiet. Then the attention turns to Sunday. Today's suite of computer models has shifted the storm track slightly further west. With a track from St. Louis to South Bend, it's getting close enough that we've got to talk about precipitation type. We may be warm enough on Sunday afternoon for some rain/freezing rain before a switchover to all snow occurs late Sunday night. This will be closely monitored with subsequent model runs. Potential precipitation is around 1.00" which (if it was all snow) would be 12". However, if we see an onset of rain we'll need to bring that total downward...something we'll do in coming days.
Certainly, there is a potential for a major winter storm in the IA, WI, IL area for Sunday night and Monday. Everyone with travel plans should monitor the forecast closely as it is subject to change. -ERIC

Whoever made that comment can "stuff it".
I think the coverage WREX provided during this terrible tragedy is more important that the current temperature and overnight lows. Of course I say this with no offense to the wonderful job you all do but the fact is sometimes other things are more important than the weather.
My thoughts go out to these students, teachers and their families.
Eric- It means so much that you covered this story instead of the weather. I was on campus when it happened and was put in lock down. It was very scary and all we had were rumors flying around. When I finally was able to leave campus and get home, I turned the tv on to wrex and was so relieved to see that you were covering the story. I didn't know any details yet and you provided them for me. Thank you so much.
I can't believe this happened. I am so sad. I'm graduating this semester and I won't soon forget my last semester at NIU.
