A few thunderstorms have sprouted up in the past hour. At this point, they are scattered around the Quad Cities and are moving northeast at approximately 45 mph. Several reports of pea size hail and frequent lightning strikes have come in from observers. The only cell that has been stated to be marginally severe is the one currently located in Bureau County (south of Lee County along I-80). It is going to be heading through La Salle County shortly. Nickel sized hail is possible with this storm. Don't be surprised to hear a clap of thunder while drinking your morning coffee. Freezing rain is not a major concern as the temperatures in Rockford, Sterling, DeKalb, Janesville, and Moline are all above 32°. I would expect the temperatures to only go up from here. Another problem later in the day will be the fog that develops as our snowpack melts and that moisture hovers in the air near the ground. -ADAM

The cuckoo weather continues. First last night we have a super burst of snow with 4+ inches, now today we may have thunderstorms, then tomorrow night, we have a winter storm. Wow, I wonder how this spring and summer will be. By the way adam, is la nina still affecting us.
thunder here in southeast rockford. its wild to hear it with all the snow on ground! it is also raining at a pretty good clip.
Poplar Grove - loud thunder at 10am and rain rain rain!
Unless it happened when I was driving, I have heard no thunder as of yet. We have rain though, but no thunder.
i believe i saw lightning through the curtains, reflecting off the snow. looked like a strobe light for a second. right after, a loud clap of thunder.
i am sure this is a goofy question, but, does snow carry electricity like water? (if for some reason a lightning bolt hit the ground). I would think it does, since snow is primarily water.
Jim, that's a really interesting question. I'm looking forward to learning the answer!
That is a good question. Hopefully eric can answer that later on when he gets in. I hope we do get this winter storm tomorrow night.
Has anyone else heard about a possible state of emergency tomorrow because of this supposed storm. I have heard from 2 different people about it.
We had thunder, lightening & rain in Belvidere.
Could you be more specific? Like they're going to issue a state of emergency before the storm even hits? I dont find that very likely.
I believe the snow emergency was for last nights snow. Don't quote me on that tho.
I find it very unlikely too. Also is anyone having trouble getting to the wrex website. I try to go there but it says windows has cancelled it and wont let me in.
6+ inch snow storm in the next 36 hours!....well thats what accu. weather says.
Snow-Snow and more snow. I'm getting tired of shoveling. We had thunder this morning here in Baileyville. Question? Is anyone having problems getting 13.1 digital channel in? I used to be able to get 13's station in, but can't anymore. Any suggestions? Thanks-Laura
I wonder if Eric or Adam will be off tomorrrow... Because if they are, Im gonna have to say 2:1 odds of 8" or more.
Well eric just updated the blog and said 12-14 inches is possible in rockford tomorrow night, so I doubt if either one will be off. That will be incredible if we get that much.
lol @ justin
Im also looking forward to this event i hope this acctually happens!!
Well, I think erics yourcast forecast should be coming out soon, so we will see what he says. I know our bingo hall has cancelled bingo for the next two night because of the weather.
Has anyone else had trouble getting to the wrexs website, because i have tried on my computer and my moms computer and it says navigation to this website cancelled. So I don't know if it is an outage or what. I called eric earlier and he said he got thru just fine.
wrex.com and all areas of the site works great for me! ;)
