... because I didn't wear green today. I must confess that I don't own any green shirts; they don't get along with the chromakey wall.
The main story in our weather world today is still the rain that will be affecting us later today into tomorrow. The leading edge of the rain is getting into northern Missouri as I type this (shortly after 9 a.m.) and will be arriving in our southern counties in the early afternoon and here in Rockford in the late afternoon/early evening. (An aside: it's hard during this transitional period to figure out when late afternoon ends and early evening begins!) I wouldn't be surprised to hear some thunder with the rain since there are reports of thunderstorms in that band that's in Missouri. At least it's not snowing like it is around Sioux Falls, SD where one of my friends is a meteorologist. She tells me that there have been some reports of upwards of 6" of snow in their viewing area.
The rain and thunderstorms will last through the overnight hours and continue into your Tuesday. I've been seeing consistent indications that the low will be kicking out sooner rather than later on Tuesday, so the entire day likely won't be rainy. In any case, feel free to pass along your rainfall totals to us tonight and tomorrow. Now might even be a good time to read up on the CoCoRaHS program - click here for more information.
As I posted before, with the ground being saturated and rivers already up, this rain will only make river levels go up. Those of you in flood-prone and low-lying areas should keep track of the rain and river levels. Incidentally, today is the start of National Flood Safety Awareness Week. It just started snowing in DaKalb. Must have gotten too cold for that rain.
ok, someone needs to pinch me, but not because I'm not wearing green, but because I want to wake from this nightmare! It's snowing really hard in DeKalb. Anyone else getting it? And if it stays snow, are we going to get a lot? Yuck! It's definatley sticking now too. I looked on weather.com's radar map (what can I say, I like their radar map?), and it had literally a small circle of snow only on DeKalb, what are the chances of that?
I'm in Cherry Valley and I see white as well.....
snow..... SNOW?!??!??! :P
Snowing in Belvidere, too. :)
I was afraid this was going to happen. What's going on is that the air was dry enough that once rain started to fall into it, it evaporated and cooled the air. Now it's cold enough for snow, although it's just barely starting to collect on a few places right now. The parking lot across from my apartment is just damp.
Our grass is covered with snow in DeKalb, but the roads are just wet. I really enjoyed seeing my grass for four days.
