10:35pm - The evening models have come in with little change. It seems probable that 4 inches of snow will fall with someone getting a little more. Going forecast of 4-8 inches will hold through morning. Should Adam see anything different from his perspective, look for it right here on the blog on Friday. We'll be on here all day. Check back frequently!

3:49pm - As anticipated, Winter Weather Advisories will go into effect tonight with snow coming in by morning. Even though 4-8 inches of snow is forecast, it shouldn't come down heavy at any given point (meaning that most of us should be able to get where we need to, it just may take a while). That's the reasoning why the National Weather Service went in favor of an advisory instead of a warning.

I will be upgrading our snowfall forecast from 2-4 inches to at least 3-6 inches in anticipation of Friday's event. Some areas have the potential to receive more than six inches. The image to the left is our latest ExacTrack computer forecast which would support the increase in snow potential. Complete forecast coming out around 3:30pm. -ES

Well I will be people who have snowmobiles or snowblowers are jumping for joy. The only downside to this is now we may actually get colder next week with fresh snowcover. Like you said last night eric, you don't see alberta clippers do this too often with the snow.

Any idea what time the snow will start? Definite downsides of working a night job AND a morning job...

NWS in Milwaukee seems to believe that a lot of WI is going to get more snow than your ExacTrack is indicating. Usually you and NWS aren't that different.

Trying to figure out whether to telecommute or go up to Madison to work tomorrow...

4-5 inches of snow is enough to shut down some schools, especially if it begins in the morning and falls continuously throughout the day..
The ideal situation for school closure is when the snow begins either late in the evening or during the night and continues through the next day.
5-6" shuts down almost all the schools if not all at least in this region. I have noticed IA and IL differ a lot on cancellations-- Illinois being a lot more conservative.

So, from Exac-Track and the graphic on the left, looks like about 5-6 inches for Dubuque, correct? Is this subject to change?

Im thinking schools wont be cancelling though because at the time when the call is made, the snow will just be starting. I've noticed they dont think too far ahead even if theres supposed to be several inches of snow on the ground by midday.

But it would be nice... I gotta put my brand new snowmobile to the test.

I don't think any schools will be canceled as this is a long-duration event. The ExacTrack model on this blog post puts higher amounts south. This may end up being spot on, but will still hold onto the highest amounts along IL/WI border. Official forecast to the right. -ES

Are you still thinking itll start around 4 or 5 am?

Scott, you are probably right. The car wash is always a jinx. Thankfully I chose to go frugal with an automated one. Regardless, $4 down the drain.
