Slick road conditions

Update 12:33am: Yes, there is a bona fide thunderstorm happening right now.

(10:29:48 PM)
iembot: LOT: 2 N Winnebago [Winnebago Co, IL] broadcast media reports FREEZING RAIN of E0.01 INCH at 09:50 PM CST -- very thin coating of ice on wrex-tv parking lot.

(9:35:33 PM)
nwsbot: MKX: Janesville [Rock Co, WI] public reports FREEZING RAIN of E0.00 INCH at 09:28 PM CST -- light glaze of ice on exposed surfaces

Update 8:00pm:
Spotty drizzle and freezing drizzle continues. The parking lot here at the station is dry, although that's certainly not the case everywhere.

A look at radar shows a handful of echoes actually showing up on radar, indicating that there may be localized light rain or light freezing rain as opposed to just drizzle. However, they're pretty few and far between. I expect this to be the case for the entire night. That said, if you do receive any precipitation, be aware that roadways, sidewalks, etc. may be very slippery. Be careful.

The temperature in Rockford at this hour is up to 35°... that will definitely help prevent us from having significant ice woes. Janesville has been reporting light freezing rain for a while, though, so I would imagine surfaces up that direction aren't too good.

Temperatures will begin to fall Sunday morning as colder air pours into the Stateline. There may be a brief period of flurries early, but it will not amount to much. If you're heading to Sunday morning services, keep an eye out for any lingering slippery stretches on the road.

Hearing reports of slippery road conditions out toward Stephenson County due to a thin glaze of ice. If you've had drizzle, be aware that surfaces may be surprisingly slick.

Well, it is 12:15am and I have been seeing flashes of lightning for the last fifteen minutes, here at Alpine/bypass 20. Amazing for Jan 4!!!!

At first I thought maybe I was just tired and seeing things, and had to get my wife to verify and see it too, and yep... I was right. lol

Yep we just had a torrential downpour lightning and thunder here in loves park just a few minutes ago. WOW.

Now the sad thing is this rain is going to turn to ice when the temp drops. I thought I was seeing things too when I saw lightning, but I heard the thunder and knew I wasn't losing it.

I just hope the roads dry out before the temps drops so icing wont be an issue. Thunderstorms in early january, it was early january last year when we had storms and had the tornado.

Just to the Northwest here in Grant County Wisconsin it is an absolute sheet of ice on everything. I had trouble just crossing the sidewalk on a slightly inclined hill.

Dubuque where I just got back from is not fun either we slid through a parking lot going about 5 mph.

I thought it was the neighbors being loud last night until I saw the flash of light outside my window. The first thing I thought of was the tornado of Jan 08. Weird for a thunderstorm at 36 degrees.

Thunder woke up 4yo... Other than that, AWESOME! Funny at 8am no ice on sidewalk or driveway, at 2pm ice covered with no additional precip.
Hmmmm
