From all of the recent snowmelt the ground is fairly saturated and still mostly frozen. With a potent storm system spinning up for tomorrow, our concerns start to turn to flooding. The majority of this morning's models are taking the heaviest rainfall along a line between southwestern Missouri and Chicago. Flood watches and flash flood watches have already been posted in most of these counties. Right now all signs point to us receiving less than an inch of rain. This would be a good thing, because any more than that and we may have to watch out for the potential for flooding. If this storm starts to track any farther to the north, the flood watch for Chicago will have to be extended to include the Rockford area.

Love that picture of the cloud cover superimposed with the location of the low pressure system.
That's one of those "picture-worth-a-thousand-words" things.
Its beautiful up in Sunny Madison today. Went for a walk @ lunch, didn't even take a coat. Some pretty gusty winds, but still not cold.
Anybody catch a view of the FULL MOON on the horizon this morning? It was amazing.
How dare you put snowflakes on friday and saturday after it felt like heaven today... Its just a nuisance snow, right?
I hope we replace some of the snow we lost this past week with the storm possible friday night into saturday. Hard to believe it was almost 60 today and I was still wearing my winter coat.
I believe this is the time of year when the days are growing longer faster than at any other time of the year. (Adam? Eric? JustinG?)
At any rate, I can notice the difference in length of the days from the beginning of the week to the end of it. Even if the warm weather doesn't last, the rapidly lengthening days should suffice to give us all a good dose of Spring Fever.
WI Wx Buff, you are definitely noticing a nice trend. This morning was the first time we have had a sunrise before 7am in 2009. This time of year we are gaining about 1 minute on each side of the day. The fastest growing/shrinking time is around the equinoxes. During the third week of March, we will be gaining roughly 90 seconds on each side of the day. Good question!
