Increasing Showers

Here is the Quad Cities radar scan from 11am. It is picking up a little bit of light rain in Winnebago County, though not much of it is reaching the ground. The atmosphere over us is certainly becoming saturated at this point and is cooling down as well. Both signs that point to some wintry weather later today. The rain/snow mix line is setting up over eastern Iowa at this point. So far I've seen a few reports of sleet in locations like Muscatine, Iowa and Sterling, Illinois. Nothing heavy is coming down in the Hawkeye State, but light snow is being reported in central Iowa. West of Waterloo is a long line of snow showers moving east that stretches from La Crosse, Wisconsin to Omaha, Nebraska.

All of this activity is closely in line to what we were expecting thus far. A mix of rain and snow will still cover the Stateline this afternoon and will eventually switch over into all snow. Originally the thought for the switch would take place near dinnertime, but with the atmosphere already into the cooling phase this change could take place slightly sooner. -ADAM
