I got a great question from a viewer today. James writes: "I would like to find out how many days it has snowed in Rockford. I just moved here from Santa Cruz, Ca. My son still lives in California and asked how many days it snowed."
James, by far December was a very snowy month for Rockford! We received nearly 22 inches of snow over the month which is way above the 30 year average of 10.8 inches.
We started November with a few trace amounts of snow, but our first "real" snow came with an ice/snow event on December 1st. We added up about an inch and a half of snow and never stopped all month! From November through today we've had 29 days with at least a trace of snow (recorded at the Chicago/Rockford Int'l Airport). Looking back at just the past 31 days, we've only had nine days without snow.
So, I think even the snow-lovers can appreciate the warm up that we'll have for the next few days. And before I get any boo-hoos, it appears there could be a significant snow sometime in the Jan 10-15th timeframe. If that forecast comes true, I'm buying myself quite a few lottery tickets! :) -ERIC

If the Jan 10-15 snow doesnt happen, I am going to hold you accountable..
not.
Thank you Justin! :)
Who's holding who accountable? lol
It might be too early for this question, but, how much of a significant snow are we talking about?
Carrie: Just a gut feeling. Really don't have too much proof other than my hunch. ;)
Ohhh..Ok..Thank you Eric..I'll stay tuned to see what may or may not develop. Have a great weekend!
From what I am seeing, looks liek now snow, but much colder weather will be returning. By then, the snow we have now will pretty much be a distant memory. I have heard of rapid snowmelt, but I woke up this morning and am starting to see bare ground already, which stinks. But like I said eric, i sent those pics into you, if it is not raining on tuesday after I am done with work, I will take pics from the same spots to show the possible bare ground. Bring on more snow.
