Tracking the tornado on doppler radar

Here is a look at four consecutive sweeps from the Romeoville National Weather Service radar. Keep in mind that these images are of "velocity mode" instead of "reflectivity mode." Normally when we look at the radar we are looking at the reflectivity (or intensity of rain or snow). These images show the direction and speed of the wind. The location of the doppler radar is to the bottom right. The deep reds and pinks show very fast winds moving AWAY from the radar site. The brightest greens are the strongest winds TOWARD the radar. In between you get the sharp counter-clockwise circulation...which turned out to be a very strong tornado.
