Precip may not stay as rain!

Sufficient cooling has taken place across Central and Eastern Iowa this afternoon. So much that snow has been accumulating around Des Moines and Cedar Rapids! Here are a few reports from the NWS:

(4:49:14 PM) iembot: Toledo [Tama Co, IA] trained spotter reports SNOW of M0.5 INCH at 04:48 PM CDT --

(4:52:36 PM) iembot: Grimes [Polk Co, IA] nws employee reports SNOW of M2.3 INCH at 04:51 PM CDT --

(5:18:30 PM) iembot: Windsor Heights [Polk Co, IA] nws employee reports SNOW of M1.8 INCH at 03:45 PM CDT -- the snow has ended and is changing over to light rain. temperature rising and is up to 33.4.

(5:15:27 PM) iembot: 2 Nw Shellsburg [Benton Co, IA] trained spotter reports SNOW of E0.8 INCH at 05:11 PM CDT -- snow is accumulating on roadways. heavy snow is reducing visibility to 1/2 mile.

(4:34:26 PM) iembot: DVN issues RAIN CHANGING OVER TO A HEAVY WET SNOW for Benton, Buchanan, Cedar, Delaware, Dubuque, Iowa, Johnson, Jones, Linn [IA] till 6:45 PM CDT

As temperatures fall here this evening, some bursts of heavy, wet snow will be possible...mainly along and north of US20. Please let us know if you happen to switch over! We won't be able to tell by looking at the doppler radar. -ERIC

It is snowing very heavily in loves park now, sticking to cars and grass but not the pavement.

Snowing here in Harvard...almost an inch on grassy surfaces at 11.30pm!!
