Parkersburg, Iowa

Here are just a couple of images of the destructive fury that took place west of the Stateline yesterday. The image on the left is a visible satellite picture taken at 6:15pm on Sunday. While the Rockford area was under relatively clear skies, massive thunderstorms had ignited over northeastern Iowa and eastern Minnesota. You can see the expanse of some of these complexes as they developed into powerful storms. The image to the right is a radar sweep as the tornado passed through the little town of Parkersburg, Iowa. The location of the tornado is depicted by the circle with the cross in the middle. It was a fairly classic supercell with the tornado forming in the southwest corner of the storm. The southerly winds at the surface came rushing into the core of the storm, which began the rotation process. This tornado has not officially been rated, but will be in the next day or two.

I had a bit of a first hand account yesterday as I was driving back from a family reunion in Des Moines, Iowa. I witnessed many nasty storms training along highway 20, with lightning strikes occurring every half second. I did not drive into Parkersburg as rescue officials were trying to keep traffic away from the devastated town. Thankfully, I had the rest of the team in the weather center guiding me through the storm so I could make it into the office on this Memorial Day. -ADAM

You know something to think about, we (the viewers) and WREX if the management would be supportive, we could do some kind of food/clothes, something like that, some kind of drive, and then like on a Saturday morning go with a 13 News Crew to Parkerburg and give it to the town.

It would really show how Rockford comes together in time of need, and hope they would do the same if anything happen here.

Just a suggestion to someone. I could never do it, first of all I don't even know where to begin.
