Update 8:30am = The strongest storms have pushed through the viewing area, but the atmosphere is still quite ripe for some redeveloping thunderstorms. Some activity is trying to get going to the south and west of Rockford, but is nowhere near the level of intensity that we witnessed just a little bit ago.Numerous reports have come out of wind gusts in excess of 50 mph, pea to marble size hail, and heavy downpours. Several spotters recorded over an inch of liquid in less than an hour.
The graphic to the upper left shows that the bullseye of activity should shift to the west of us for the afternoon hours. By lunchtime we should be tranquil, but the heat and humidity is going to stick around all day long. High risk circles are not issued too often by the Storm Prediction Center. Therefore, that should tell you how volatile the environment looks later today for portions of Kansas and Minnesota and all points in between.

The storm has pretty much passed up here, but around 745 it was very loud and lightning literally hit right by house. Enough to scare the crap out of me. i wonder why adam didnt run the chat for this event. Still looks bad to the north, but that might miss us this time.
Heavy, heavy rain in Belvidere has been coming down, the overflow drainage ditch is completely full and I'm getting nervous watching the water seep over it toward our property.

Tony, the live chat wasn't utilized this morning for two reasons. It will typically only work if we are in watching or "waiting mode". The only other time it will work is when we have two meteorologists on hand. We were under the gun this morning and I was running solo. During events like this I am more concerned with live coverage over your television.
Yeah, thats cool. That is what i figured. The storm literally woke me up, so I just jumped online. I kind of figured with you running solo, it wouldnt be running. Sorry if I sounded bad with the post.

I do know we did not have much in the way of wind or hail, but the lightning was just intense. I think one flash literally hit our street or close because it was just flash-boom. Enough to make me turn away from window and say an expletive word. Is it going to get hot and humid once the remains of this MCS exits the area.
I'm an observer for CoCoRaHS and observed 1.00" of rain between 0730 and 0750 near Byron.
I have 1.5 inches of rain in my gauge up here in Rockton
Wow, based on these reports, I must have the lowest amount of rain. I had slightly less than an inch. .92 to be exact. must be how the storms formed and who got the heaviest. What did the airport record adam.
Thanks for all the rainfall reports. I am going to use as many as I can on a graphic for the noon show. RFD recorded 0.94" of liquid.
