We had some very strong winds and a shelf cloud blow over our house here but so far still no rain.

I have been looking at the radar and it looks like where i live, the storms have practially formed a circle around here, my house still has no rain at all. wow.

At about 8:50, to our southwest, we saw what looked like a shelf cloud moving at us very fast. It was very surreal! We are located in Roscoe just between Hononegah and 251. Is there any confirmation to a shelf cloud?
Great job Justin, again the only station with any coverage!

Justin Gehrts said...

Yes, that was indeed a shelf cloud moving through.

If anybody thought my sign-off was a little abrupt... we apparently have a very devoted Dateline NBC viewership.

is there going to be live chat justin. looks liek rain is my doorstep. i would have gotten a pic of the shelf cloud, but it was getting too dark.

Justin Gehrts said...

No live chat tonight, our severe weather threat is turning more into a flash flooding threat.

That said, if you or anybody else have any reports, please pass them along.

Justin, if you have a moment later, can you explain the significance of the shelf cloud?
Thanks.

Torrential downpours in loves park now.

But now, that rain has just about ended. Looking at the radars, it looks like storms were making good headway into our area, but then its like they just stopped.

At of 11:15pm.. there was about 1.30" in the rain guage from tonight's storms in NW Rockford. Also some water seepage into our basement.

I just checked my rain gauge and as of 1150 pm, i had 1.62 and still raining lightly. And i am pretty sure that is accurate because I did not see any water in my gauge from early this morning. I think my dad may have dumped it out. So this total is from these storms just now.
