After being cooped up indoors during the first part of the week because of the unpleasant humidity, I was pretty happy with how the air felt when I walked out the door this morning. The cold front that brought us the showers and thunderstorms over the past couple days has cleared the area and scoured out the mugginess.
However, we're heading into the time of year that cold fronts meet their demise before getting very far south. This particular cold front will have the same fate as many other cold fronts and will fall apart soon. A return flow will pull that humid Gulf airmass back into the Midwest, leading to a decidedly steamy Friday. Heat index values may creep close to 100 degrees.
