Ingredients In Place

A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH has been issued for the majority of the viewing area through 4pm. The only counties it does not include are in extreme northwestern Illinois.

All of the ingredients are in place for some rough weather in the near future. Temperatures are about to break into the 80s with dew points in the 60s. The cold front is currently draped across central Wisconsin and central Iowa. As this slides our way it will trigger several storms. Thunderstorms should enter the region early this afternoon and continue periodically through sunset. Rainfall amounts are not the main concern as it looks like most spots in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin will pick up around half an inch of rain. The main problems from some of the stronger cells and the bowing segments that I expect to develop will be gusty winds and hail. -ADAM
