The map to the left shows the current watch in effect across the Midwest as of 5:30pm. A Tornado Watch has been issued for most of Western Iowa until 9pm.Here is where we stand. These storms are running into an airmass that is very warm, but has fairly low levels of moisture. Typically, we need dew points in the 50s and 60s for severe weather to occur. Dew points in Rockford have been sitting in the 40s all day long. By the time these storms reach us it will be nighttime. Thus, we will have lost the potential energy from the effects of daytime heating. These two factors mean that our chances for severe weather will be fairly low over the next 24 hours.
The majority of the showers should be long gone by the time you head into work Monday morning. Rainfall totals from this fast moving storm system will be light and range between a few hundreths of an inch to a quarter of an inch. -ADAM
