Here's a look at the snowfall potential map for Wednesday night into Thursday. I expect a wide swath of one inch potential which will include the cities of Peoria, Cedar Rapids, Janesville, and Milwaukee.Depending on the rate of snow and whether the ground will melt too much of the snow, two to three inches seems likely from the Quad Cities through Rockford into the NW suburbs. With a strong northeast wind expected for the duration of this storm, the warm waters of Lake Michigan will keep most of the Chicagoland area in the 1-2 with lesser amounts east of the Tri-State Tollway. I did shade in some dark blue from Moline through Rochelle into DeKalb. This area could be right around 3 inches...perhaps an isolated 4. Travel will become tricky, mainly on bridges and overpasses. It'll take quite a bit of snow to accumulate on well-traveled roads. My hunch is that this will be a mainly "grassy area event." More to come. -ERIC

It's always worse in DeKalb it seems. Any idea when it will begin snowing? We're supposed to leave for Missouri around noon or 2pm on wednesday.
I think it'll start late Wednesday afternoon and last through the overnight. Again, I think this will be a "grassy" event. Most roadways will be okay. They'll be out salting so I don't think there's a big reason to move any travel plans around. -ERIC

How is fog forecasted? Is it just based on humidity or is there more to it?
Do you think it will be snowing at 10 on wednesday night, that is when I get off of work.
Justin: Fog is most often present on the northeast side of Low pressure. That's the plain-and-simple way of looking at fog. If you have enough ground moisture and little air to move it around you can get quite a bit of ground fog. -ERIC
Tony: More than likely...but this isn't going to be a huge event. Major melting will take place as it's accumulating...bridges and overpasses will be slick though. -ERIC
Ok, thank you eric. I only have to travel over 1 bridge gettng home, so I will be cautious crossing it. I have a feeling with this snow fall that the ground will start to cool off for the next major storm that comes thru, presumably next month.
