Case of Virga

13 FutureTrack is lighting up early this morning, but not much of this precipitation is reaching the ground. The air in the lower levels of the atmosphere is quite dry this morning so most of the falling precipitation is turning into virga or precipitation that evaporates before it hits the ground. Our dew point depression (difference in degrees between temperature and dew point) at 8am was 8°. As of 9am it has dropped to 7° with a temp of 33° over a dew point of 26°. The lower the dew point depression gets, the more saturated our atmosphere becomes. I would expect this precipitation to overcome the virga stage later this morning. It probably starts off as a wintry mix before southerly winds bring in enough warm air to change it over into rain for the remainder of the day. -ADAM
