Quiet for now

Our good friend High Pressure is going to be situated to our south, bringing us blue sky and lighter winds. It's going to have up a brick wall for a day or so, keeping the cloudiness at bay. Unfortunately, we're heading into northwest flow, giving us rain chances every few days. It's not going to feel like the middle of May...

And a quick update from my friend who was chasing yesterday - he says the group is pretty sure they drove through a weak tornado, as both mobile mesonet vehicles recorded winds of 85 mph and 115 mph where a tornado was reported. The group is led by Tim Samaras, whose work has been seen on National Geographic. He's in charge of Project TWISTEX (Tactical Weather Instrumented Sampling in/near Tornadoes EXperiment). I was part of it last summer and the goal is to acquire near-ground information about tornadic supercells. If next weekend is quiet and I remember, I'll discuss more about it then.
