We're already a third of the way through September - I know, I can't believe it either - and these first ten days have been characterized by cool and wet weather. Regular readers of this blog may recall my disdain for math, but I'm going to be ironic and dish out some numbers.
We've had a seven-day stretch without reaching 80°. This is the longest sub-80° period of weather since May when we went 18 days without reaching 80° (May 7 to May 24).
Rockford has picked up just shy of 3" of rain so far this month (2.99" to be exact). The last time we had 3" of rain fall in the first ten days of a month was just this past July when we received 3.18". Now, if you want to be really detailed, all of our rain this month fell in the first eight days. The last time we had 3" of rain in the first eight days of the month was way back in ... drum roll, please ... June. 3.91" of rain fell from June 1-8. June and July were indeed awfully wet months.
However, that trend reversed in August. We were well below normal in the rainfall department; our viewing area received less than half of what normally falls in August. Some locales even had merely 25% of their normal August rainfall. So far this month, we're sitting at 200% of what normally falls in the first week or so, with much of central Illinois having three times as much rainfall as is normal.
