Untitled

Tonight on my way back to the station from dinner I was going westbound on Auburn Street. I noticed a yellow labrador retriever standing in the middle of the road. I stopped but the oncoming car didn't notice what was there and struck the poor dog was. I moved forward and pulled off of the road and was going to attempt to help. As I was about to get out of the car all I could hear were the loud moans and yelps of the lab. With a face-full of tears I had to keep going. I dialed up the sheriff's office to tell them and they said they would hurry an animal control officer out to put the dog down. I then went back home to give Theo a hug and get myself a little better prepared for the 10 o'clock.

I still can't get the scene and sound out of my head. My thought is that maybe if I shared this story someone will reconsider letting their four-legged companion run "free." Please remember that their innocent heads don't allow them to reason when it comes to our speedy way of life.

If you aren't able to keep your animals in your home or fenced in your yard you need to find a better home.

For this little guy, I am hopeful he's at the rainbow bridge right now.

I think any pet owners who let their dogs or cats run free should get charged with animal cruelty since they are putting the animals life in major danger. i am an animal lover and it saddened me to read this. I hope the owner gets a major fine.

Though this is super sad. I think we need to remember that generally if someone gets a pet; they also consider it a part of the family. So, some where some child or adult is mourning their loss of their pet. We do not know how the pet was able to get out. Someone anyone related to the family or not could of accidentally let the gate/door open. Or Fido was able to open it for the first time. Dogs are smart; and some are determined. I as a pet owner feel compassion for this family and their loss. I too will hug my lab. Enjoy the forever bones and chews little dog. :(
